The girlfriend: I have just been enthusing about my snuggie to the office
The girlfriend: [Co-worker] is doing an ideal Christmas list and someone brought it up
The girlfriend: I think I am the only person who actually owns one
Me: You love your snuggie
The girlfriend: Yes
The girlfriend: Although I told everyone you would not let me wear it in public
The girlfriend: Which they seemed to think was fully justified

You can now watch British television, live, on... →
Via emmas, krispayne, dalasverdugo E4 is probably the best channel on the list, to be honest, although More4 and Film4 are good too. Basically, the whole Channel 4 family. BBC4 is about the most highbrow thing on there, although Newsnight on BBC2 at 10.30pm British time, every weeknight, is worth watching. Oh, and BBC News is infinitely better than Sky News.

This time last year, I was somewhere near Walnut Creek, on the outskirts of San Francisco, at a friend’s mum’s house for Thanksgiving. It was a proper Californian Thanksgiving, with my friend’s parents both there, along with their new partners, having been recently divorced. It was my first experience of Thanksgiving in the States, and I loved it. Stupidly large amounts of...

Also, the family bucket of KFC the other night was probably a subconscious recognition on the part of the girlfriend that we are basically a family now. Or maybe that is a bit too deep and she was in fact just pissed.

I feel like I’ve just taken a fairly big step, relationship-wise. It’s my mum’s birthday this Sunday, and I just wrote her card to pop in the postbox later today. But this is the first time that I’ve ever signed a card for anyone in my family from me and someone else. I’ve never been this deep into a relationship, this long with another person, and definitely have...

Further to my day after KFC dilemma, the consensus seemed to be to eat it cold. So eat it cold I did. And it was gooooooooooood. I think I’ll be buying twice as much fried chicken as I actually need from now on, so as to have leftovers the next day. Highly recommended.

On my way back from the football last night, a mildly inebriated girlfriend called me to ask if I’d eaten anything. She was just heading back from drinks with friends and was hungry. I said that I’d not had dinner, so she decided to go to KFC and bring some back to the flat. I was expecting maybe a couple of Tower Burgers, and some wings or something, but when I got home she had a...

Monsoon in London (via my Vimeo) There was a brief burst of torrential rain this afternoon, and I grabbed my camera to record some of it. It was really damn loud, and we were a bit worried that soon it’d be flowing down the inside of the windows. I need to re-edit this video, as I left a couple of the clips a bit too long. Something to do tomorrow night…

There’s something about a good steak that really sets it apart from other foods. I think it’s the fact that it is purely a piece of meat, with no pretence towards pastry, bun, sauce or anything else that might detract from its meatiness. It’s man (and cutlery) versus meat, nothing in between. In fact, the only way that a steak could be better would be if it were served on a...

– Caz is awesome. Also, I need to find a barman that serves decent-sized measures of booze. Having been a barman and pretty damn liberal with what I poured, more often than not I feel a bit short-changed when I order a drink nowadays. Particularly as the price goes up. There seems to be a middle...

This is the first birthday on which I’ve worked, I think. I left uni in 2006, and that November my birthday fell on a Sunday. The last two years, I’ve not been in the office on the actual day of my birthday, or for most of the surrounding week. This time last year, I was on a plane to Kentucky, and the year before that I had a friend visiting from San Fransisco so took a week off...

The girlfriend’s interviewing William Hague (Shadow Foreign Secretary and ex-leader of the Tory party) this evening, and is struggling to come up with any questions for him. Ideally, they’ll be related to the area of South London which she covers, but I’ve also pointed her in the direction of David Cameron’s promise/unpromise of a referendum on the EU Lisbon Treaty.
