Rob, Rambling - A lot of things interest me...

Map of the areas covered in Star Trek. Obviously you need to click through to see it full size, and I’m sure this is only one of several hotly debated map versions.

It always felt like they were just wandering around without any real location, so I got curious and looked this up.

Excuse me whilst I geek out. This is only the Alpha quadrant of the Milky Way galaxy, which is admittedly where most of the Star Trek series/films have been set. Nearly all of the commonly seen races in Trek (humans, Klingons, Vulcans, Cardassians, Romulans, etc) are from the Alpha quadrant, and it is in this area that the voyages of the Enterprises (and 99% of the Federation voyages) take place.

But vast other areas of the galaxy have been (tentatively) explored, as part of Deep Space 9 (i.e. through the wormhole to the Gamma quadrant, and in Voyager as a result of being hurled halfway across the galaxy into the Delta quadrant.

There’s a few maps online, but this is a pretty good one showing the whole galaxy. For reference, the above map all takes place in the sector just below the centre of that map…

God I’m sad.

EDIT: Jeez, I’m so sad that I already had posts tagged as “Star Trek”.
