My dear man, you do realise that the phrase “the weaker sex” went out with the Ark? You may well be confused with the slightly more acceptable, “fairer sex”. There were no other words associated with the word “weaker”, but synonyms for female. I do suppose that if it had been applied to a male likeness [and no other meaning], you would have your fragile male ego all in a twist. I do not know what you are referring to when you mention the word “stronger”. I did my own search and came up with three references, none of which were gender based. Faux-disgust? You are not making sense. Nothing “faux” about it. Women suffer enough, still. I’m not a raging feminist, but they really do need to do something about that listing. Oh, and likewise, your abusive tone and ignorance is neither endearing nor impressive. It is quite frankly, offensive. Rude, even. Jeez, consider the nerve ending well and truly touched. Who cares if it’s the only result for “weaker” on that site? A search on google brings up 349,000 results for that phrase, so I’m not so sure about it going out “with the ark”. I still hear and read the phrase from time to time. It still exists, whether we like it or not. Just like we hear the word “nigger” every so often. Words don’t simply die out like that, however offensive or insensitive they may be. Let’s look at the other synonyms for “woman” which crop up when you search for “weaker”: broad; cheesecake; chichi; dowager; filly; frail; gentlewoman; piece; shrew; tomato; wren; bitch; mare; And yet you take issue with “weaker sex”? It’s a phrase, a hangover from times past, just like most of the words above. I’ve heard “weaker sex” a whole lot more than I have “cheesecake” or “wren” when talking about women. I used “stronger” as an example of there not being an actual entry for the word. It wasn’t meant to bring up any gender-based results, but I figured it was a good word to use, given that we’re talking about the word “weaker”. My fragile male ego? Again, get over yourself/selves. I like to think that I can look at something like this, realise that it’s a half-interesting piece of trivia, and move on. It’s NOT important. Read it, think “hmmm”, and move on. It is faux-disgust. You’re making a mountain out of something that isn’t even a molehill. You’re trying to say that this is some kind of misogynist conspiracy from thesaurus.com, when it clearly isn’t. You want to sound disgusted, as you believe you should be, when there isn’t really anything to get disgusted about. My tone is what it is. I’m not attempting to be rude nor offensive, but neither am I trying to be polite and nice. It’s the language of debate, highlighting where the opposite party is wrong and pointing out their mistakes. And if you look at the content of my original post, the meat of it is framed in completely neutral language. My opinion at the start and end shouldn’t detract from the points I have made.
