Regardless of who you’re voting for, read this article. It dives into the political issues and provides the history and context behind each partisan point of view. It’s very fair. Also, this article stresses the importance of paying attention to what has happened in the country during the past eight years. During the Bush Administration, the national debt, now approaching ten trillion dollars, has nearly doubled. Private-sector job creation has been a sixth of what it was under President Clinton. Five million people have fallen into poverty. The number of Americans without health insurance has grown by seven million, while average premiums have nearly doubled. Just a couple of bullet points, but facts that should really scare people. They certainly frighten me. As a summing up of the two candidates and of the campaign so far, this New Yorker editorial is peerless. Yes, it leans towards Obama throughout and gives a resounding cry of support to him at the end, but it gives pretty fair coverage of his mistakes as well as McCain’s strong points. For me, this is one of those pieces that really points towards the endgame that is fast approaching. Is it yet less than 4 weeks until this election is over? Can’t come quickly enough!
