World-famous cricket legend Brian Lara shows President Obama how to properly swing a bat on April 19, 2009.

It’s funny to look at this in terms of his stance. I’ve watched quite a few Americans try to hold a cricket bat correctly, and they all hold it like a baseball bat, a little unsure of exactly how a cricket bat is supposed to be used.

Look at how far back Obama has his ass, and how the bat face is pointing outwards rather than the ground. His arms aren’t bent either, which is one of the most important parts of the batting stance. He looks like he’s about to either topple backwards, or be rooted to the spot, given the weight imbalance on his feet.

Lara has an absolutely classic pose, as befits someone who is one of the greatest batsmen ever to play the game. His weight is balanced on the front leg, with the right-elbow facing straight towards where the ball would come from. Lara is a leftie, just like Obama, with the right arm doing the guiding and the left supplying any power that’s necessary.

Jeez, I miss playing/watching cricket. The Ashes series can’t start soon enough, even if England is going to get absolutely whipped by the damn Aussies.
