The Knife - Heartbeats (Unofficial Animated video)

Animated by Guy Collins

(via atencio and hipsterdiet)

This is simply fantastic. I love this song, and The Knife have so many good tunes that it’s impossible not to like them. The way these visuals take each element of the song and animate it repeatedly reminds me of Michel Gondry’s take on Chemical Brothers’ Star Guitar, which used aspects of the French countryside to represent each instrument or melody within the song.

When done correctly, like this one is, it looks amazing and adds another layer to the song as you can see when certain instruments come in and drop out at different points. Fantastic stuff.

“Boris Bikes” lined up and ready to go on their first day. There were quite a few people cycling past as I was out and about at lunchtime, which is a good sign.

I’ve not yet used one, as I forgot to register a couple of weeks ago. They’re only for pre-registered people during the first month, but after that you’ll quite literally be able to just rock up and take one.

They’re free for half an hour, but you’re able to drop your bike off at a docking station after 29 minutes and immediately take out another without incurring any fees. And seeing as they’re designed for brief journeys across central London, it’s unlikely that you’ll be doing any epic journeys anyway.

What needs to happen, though, is integration with existing Oyster travel cards. When you register, you get sent some kind of key to unlock the docking stations. That’s something else to carry with you every day, whereas my Oyster card is in my wallet 24/7, and I’m never without it.

One day, we’ll be able to just swipe the Oyster card and have a fee deducted from your balance, which gets restored when you re-dock the bike somewhere else. That’s what I’d be aiming for, if I were in the planning department of TfL, anyway.

I want one of these glasses!

This photo is hanging in the gents’ loos at Cafe Rouge in Wimbledon Village, and it amuses me how many random pieces of art you can find decorating various toilets in restaurants and bars. Well, you’ve got to keep your eyes busy whilst you’re in there…

The photo I just posted is one of the best I’ve ever taken, I reckon. I love the sheer contrast between the sign and the darkness behind. This sign just stands by itself, and it seems so insignificant compared to what it points to.

Londoners, you’ll find this sign just off Trafalgar Square, in front of St Martin’s Church.

Shortly, this little riot of colour will become a fantastic paella, if the girlfriend is to be believed. Yum!

Update: It was goooooooood.

Waiting for a bus last night at the bottom end of Putney High Street, I snapped a few photos as the traffic went past. I love this kind of long exposure shot of lights at night-time, and have hundreds of them from various places across London over the last few years.

I love snow-covered cars. Reminds me of snowball fights and how cars were the perfect place to make snowballs from. They provided cover, and at the same time easy-to-reach snow at a good height.

Those were the days.

Whilst today’s snow isn’t settling in central London, in my part of town it definitely is. Only about 3-4 inches deep, but that’s good enough for me!

As you can see, I wasn’t the first person home to my building this evening…
