Rob, Rambling - A lot of things interest me...

You wouldn’t believe how excited I am about this. I posted back in January about going to a Rammstein gig, and how it was ticking off one of 3 bands that I’d wanted to see since forever.

May rolled round, and I can safely say that seeing Faithless is one of the highlights of my year so far. I’d built it up in my head so much, and even then I was still blown away by how good they are and how much I enjoyed it. It was an incredible night, and I’m still buzzing when I think about it.

And now I’ve got tickets to go see Korn in October. I’m out of the country when they play Ozzfest in London (and I’m not fussed about the other bands on that day anyway), so am having to go down to Southampton when they stop off as part of their own European tour. To be honest, I really don’t care about that, as I’ve wanted to see this band for over a decade now.

October can’t get here soon enough.

Faithless - Insomnia

Inspired by the list Travors posted, I’ve decided to do the 30-day song challenge, starting with my favourite song.

I can’t remember exactly when it was I first heard this song, but it was sometime in the late ’90s. It just grabbed me with its huge build-up and then massive drop into a simply fantastic melody. As I listened to it more and more, I found Maxi Jazz’s lyrics poetic and powerful.

I have been known to do this song at karaoke.

Faithless are famed for their live performances, and a few weeks back I completed one of my life goals (seriously) which I’ve had for over a decade, and finally saw them in person. The whole concert was amazing, but just to be there for Insomnia was mind-blowing. I went mental when it dropped into the famous keyboard chords, and it still gives me the shivers to think back on it.

Faithless - Not Going Home

If the first track from their new album is anything to go by, the Faithless gig next Friday is going to be absolutely immense. I can’t wait!

I was just listening to some Faithless as I was doing the washing up, and when ‘God is a DJ’ came on, it really hit me that I’ll be seeing these guys lives in about 8-9 weeks time. And I got really excited by that fact.

I’ve wanted to see Faithless live for so long, being totally in love with all of their music, and blown away every time I’ve seen any footage of their live performances. I’ve got a live album, and the sheer energy and passion they let loose on stage is incredible.

I mentioned just before I went to see Rammstein that Faithless and Korn were the other two bands that I’ve always wanted to go see. Well, before 2010 is even halfway through, I’ll have ticked two off that list of three. Hopefully Korn will tour Europe again before too long.

Faithless - Drifting Away (Paradiso Mix)

This is one of my favourite Faithless tunes, probably because of the length of the intro, a solid 2:30 before the beat kicks in. It starts off with some acapella opera singing, followed by a gorgeous little piano melody, which just builds and builds until the bassline drops.

The rest of the track is brilliant too, but that intro is enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
