Rob, Rambling - A lot of things interest me...

Unfortunately, the fancy dress shop didn’t have the spiders mask I highlighted earlier. Nevertheless, I found this one, which I really like. Sort of freaky, but stylish too. Couple this with a sharp suit and I’ll look the business on Saturday night.

(In theory.)

I’m off to a masked ball on Saturday, and haven’t quite decided what kind of mask it is I should wear. I’m not sure whether the theme is somewhat classy (so something like these masks), or whether I can go for something a bit more silly (like these examples).

I reckon that classy is the way forward, and this one has caught my eye:

It’s odd, but still quite subtle. Hopefully it’s in stock at the shop!

New glasses

Old glasses

Old glasses

I picked up a new pair of glasses last night, and have spent today trying to get used to them. They’re quite a different style to my old ones, which I’ve been wearing for at least five or six years.

The new ones aren’t as tall, which means that when I look down or up, it’s much easier to see past the edges of them. This is a tad disturbing, but thankfully my prescription isn’t all that strong anyway, and it’s only really in one eye, so I’m already barely noticing it.

What I am noticing, though, is the frames in my peripheral vision to the sides. The red edging on the frames is visible from the inside, and the arms are pretty chunky, so I sort of have these red squares at the edge of my peripheral vision when I look to the left or right. Again, something I’ll just have to get used to.

I wanted to change my look, because it really has been the same for a few years now, save for the coming and going of various beards. A chunkier frame is a start, although no-one at work noticed today. :(

Outrage at Grazia magazine after an intern who was sent out regularly to buy skinny lattes for the beauty desk announced at the end of her stint on the mag that she had in fact been buying them all full-fat ones.

MediaMonkey.

Genius.

It was a bit nippy out today, so my new hat had to make an appearance…

I really like this hat, actually. I picked it up for something like $5 at H&M while in the States, and it matches perfectly with my shopping mantra when it comes to clothes: cheap, but not so cheap as to look like a ragamuffin.

I genuinely don’t care about fashion, only about what’s comfortable. I spend all day at work in either a suit or at least in a shirt and trousers, so there’s not much room to be particularly flairy there.

What I do like buying is v-neck jumpers, which I live in both for work and outside. In the autumn/winter months, I wear an outfit like the above most of the time, with trousers for work and with jeans at the weekend. Easy, comfortable, and oh-so-predictable. This particular jumper is from an Old Navy outlet store, and it’s ridiculously soft.

I like how the onset of colder weather brings with it the same fashion for women as the onset of warmer weather at the start of summer: short skirts.

Admittedly, these days those short skirts are worn over thick black tights rather than bare skin, but hey, I’m a fan.

I think this is the point where we all say “to hell with Lady Gaga”.

I love Eminem’s face. He’s so confused.

Seriously, what the FUCK is going on here?

Ah, Ladies’ Day at Ascot. It’s one of those events that is quintessentially British, with the great and the good at the racecourse, dolled up to the nines. It’s a rule that women must cover their crowns with some sort of hat, and it seems that in recent years comedy hats have become more common.

I like how this one is unashamedly topical at the expense (ha, expense!) of fashion. Hell, it worked: she’s in the newspaper…

Ladies, a word of advice:

If you’re wearing a knee-length skirt with one of those splits on the back, don’t bend right over to pick something out of your bag by your feet. That split rides up a lot higher than you think it does, believe me.

This advice brought to you by the sights you see as you walk along the platform at Putney station on a Monday morning.
