I’ve been watching the NFL wildcard games this weekend, via some streams of American TV, and have seen adverts for this beauty popping up a few times.
Seriously, do you Americans think that a burrito isn’t enough by itself?! Do you really need to wrap a burrito in another tortilla, with nacho cheese in between?!
And this thing is only 89c, which is absolutely ridiculous. It must be more expensive to actually cook a proper meal at home than go out for fast food… Doesn’t that strike you as a little odd?
I do enjoy this time of year for the general spirit of goodwill around. I was just in McDonald’s, grabbing some lunch, when an example presented itself.
NOTE: I generally avoid McDonald’s other than for the odd Double Sausage & Egg McMuffin, which is pretty much like the ambrosia of the gods in muffin form. I’m not massively impressed by the usual burgers there, especially Big Macs of recent years. Oh, and the Big Mac has gotten a little smaller, right?
I’d ordered a Quarterpounder With Cheese meal, and then a Cheeseburger on the side. What?! I’m a growing lad, and in any case McD’s burgers have got smaller over the years.
Evidently, the time at which I’d ordered a cheeseburger was the wrong moment, as I then had to wait for one to be prepared. It took forever, during which those cheeseburgers which made it down the chute were swiftly grabbed by workers a little quicker than the girl who was serving me.
After waiting for at least five minutes (I know, a whole five minutes. The horror!), the girl serving me leaned over and asked if I’d “like a double?”. Hell yeah! The chute of double cheesburgers was piling up, with nary a single one of the, erm, single variety in sight.
She popped a double into my bag, and I walked out a very chuffed customer.
Thanks, random McDonald’s server on High Holborn. You made this guy’s day!
On my way back from the football last night, a mildly inebriated girlfriend called me to ask if I’d eaten anything. She was just heading back from drinks with friends and was hungry. I said that I’d not had dinner, so she decided to go to KFC and bring some back to the flat.
I was expecting maybe a couple of Tower Burgers, and some wings or something, but when I got home she had a bloody family bucket. Four lots of fries, and a damn bucket of chicken.
I’m not a fan of foods that are served in buckets at the best of times, but 11pm on a weeknight, stone cold sober, is definitely not the occasion for one.
Nevertheless, we ploughed through a good chunk of it, all the while with the girlfriend repeating how she hadn’t meant to buy so much, and that there was “so much food!”
Obviously, we couldn’t finish all of it (not being a family), so there’s a couple of pieces of chicken in my fridge now. My question is, is KFC good the day after, maybe microwaved?
