Sitting in the dentist’s chair earlier, I noticed that she had Classic FM on in the background, and it made me think that if I were a dentist, I’d be so tempted to drill in time with the music.
Dun dun dun dun dunn, drilldrill, drilldrill and so on.

The Knife - Heartbeats (Unofficial Animated video)
Animated by Guy Collins
(via atencio and hipsterdiet)
This is simply fantastic. I love this song, and The Knife have so many good tunes that it’s impossible not to like them. The way these visuals take each element of the song and animate it repeatedly reminds me of Michel Gondry’s take on Chemical Brothers’ Star Guitar, which used aspects of the French countryside to represent each instrument or melody within the song.
When done correctly, like this one is, it looks amazing and adds another layer to the song as you can see when certain instruments come in and drop out at different points. Fantastic stuff.

Because I’m an idiot, I managed to lose my iPod on Friday evening as I made my way home. With my memory a little hazy and booze-addled, I’m not sure exactly where. What’s odd is that my headphones made it back with me, but not the iPod.
Hopefully, it’ll be covered by my insurance, but in any case I need to get myself a new mp3 player. My shuffle just isn’t enough for me.
I had the older 80GB version, so the iPod Classic 160GB is winking at me. Can anyone recommend any other players somewhere in the region of 80GB+?
Forget 24, Lost and the Bourne trilogy…this is some serious edge-of-the-seat drama. I tuned in for 30 seconds and witnessed 4 separate near death incidents involving taxi’s and spanish tourists. Gripping stuff, and to be honest I’m not sure who’s side i’m on. (Found here) Highly addictive. Bloody tourists! It’s amusing how each group crosses and does the moves as if they were the very first people to think of re-enacting the album cover.

You wouldn’t believe how excited I am about this. I posted back in January about going to a Rammstein gig, and how it was ticking off one of 3 bands that I’d wanted to see since forever.
May rolled round, and I can safely say that seeing Faithless is one of the highlights of my year so far. I’d built it up in my head so much, and even then I was still blown away by how good they are and how much I enjoyed it. It was an incredible night, and I’m still buzzing when I think about it.
And now I’ve got tickets to go see Korn in October. I’m out of the country when they play Ozzfest in London (and I’m not fussed about the other bands on that day anyway), so am having to go down to Southampton when they stop off as part of their own European tour. To be honest, I really don’t care about that, as I’ve wanted to see this band for over a decade now.
October can’t get here soon enough.
EDIT: I have a spare ticket if anyone wants to go? Korn aren’t really the girlfriend’s thing.
Tool - Schism
(via MadInChains on Youtube)
It’s not often that I get a real hankering to listen to one album in particular, but for some reason today I had Tool’s Lateralus album in my head. I put it on when I got home, and remembered just how good it is. It’s a fantastic collection of songs, and I remember how much I loved it when I first bought the CD.
It also brought back memories of actually buying the CD itself, because it was one of those artfully packaged jobs. The booklet was made of transparent plastic, with each page turn revealing a little more of the stylised human head dissection. It was a cool CD.
Equally stunning were the videos made for each song. They were a mix of puppetry, stop-animation, and performance art, and were pretty freaky indeed. Someone has taken the time to rip them from a DVD in HD and put them up on Youtube, which means we can get weirded out all over again now.
I could be at a Prodigy gig tomorrow, and also seeing Pendulum, Enter Shikari, and a couple of others.
Instead, I’ll be at another wedding.
The girlfriend’s still going to the gig though. Dammit!
The Streets - Fit But You Know It
30 Day Song Challenge - A song that makes you happy
There are loads of songs that put a smile on my face, usually because the lyrics are funny, or because they remind me of a happy time. Seeing as there’s an entry for the latter a little further down the 30-day song challenge list, I’ve chosen a song that really makes me smile just because of the song itself.
I’m a huge, huge fan of The Streets, and this is one of his happiest, boppiest, singalong tunes that just makes me chuckle every time I hear it. Skinner paints a picture of a scene so vividly that you can’t help but be swept up in it all.
The opening lyric gets me on every listen: “See I reckon you’re about an 8 or a 9 / Maybe even 9 and a half in four beers time.” It’s genuinely funny, and that type of humour continues through the rest of the song, with some great wordplay around the concept of “rude”, and the final twist in the last verse.
A genuinely funny song.
