Rob, Rambling - A lot of things interest me...

I’m going to a mate’s stag do next weekend, and on one of the days we all have to dress up. The theme this time round is to dress up as a country, which we drew out of a hat a few weeks ago.

As you can see, I drew China.

I found this jacket at a little shop in Chinatown earlier today, and the hat is actually an old lampshade. I love the jacket, especially the collar styling. If it makes it back from Edinburgh in one piece, I might find opportunity to wear it again…

Old glasses

I picked up a new pair of glasses last night, and have spent today trying to get used to them. They’re quite a different style to my old ones, which I’ve been wearing for at least five or six years.

The new ones aren’t as tall, which means that when I look down or up, it’s much easier to see past the edges of them. This is a tad disturbing, but thankfully my prescription isn’t all that strong anyway, and it’s only really in one eye, so I’m already barely noticing it.

What I am noticing, though, is the frames in my peripheral vision to the sides. The red edging on the frames is visible from the inside, and the arms are pretty chunky, so I sort of have these red squares at the edge of my peripheral vision when I look to the left or right. Again, something I’ll just have to get used to.

I wanted to change my look, because it really has been the same for a few years now, save for the coming and going of various beards. A chunkier frame is a start, although no-one at work noticed today. :(

This evening marked the official start of Christmas for me, with a viewing of The Muppet Christmas Carol. I love this film!

And yes, I own it on DVD.

Excuse the vanity! Most of these are from the girlfriend’s camera, not mine, in my defence.

This is from 2006, and is me standing at the entrance to the street in Berlin where I used to live. The flat we were in overlooked all of the sports fields around the Olympic Stadium, particularly those for tennis and hockey.

I remember being able to look down from our balcony and watch the floodlit matches taking place each evening. It was probably my first taste of sport…

EDIT: Holy crap, I was a skinny motherfucker in 2006.

It was a bit nippy out today, so my new hat had to make an appearance…

I really like this hat, actually. I picked it up for something like $5 at H&M while in the States, and it matches perfectly with my shopping mantra when it comes to clothes: cheap, but not so cheap as to look like a ragamuffin.

I genuinely don’t care about fashion, only about what’s comfortable. I spend all day at work in either a suit or at least in a shirt and trousers, so there’s not much room to be particularly flairy there.

What I do like buying is v-neck jumpers, which I live in both for work and outside. In the autumn/winter months, I wear an outfit like the above most of the time, with trousers for work and with jeans at the weekend. Easy, comfortable, and oh-so-predictable. This particular jumper is from an Old Navy outlet store, and it’s ridiculously soft.

Pitch-side seats at the England game last night. Ideal!

Sidenote: I’ve just noticed that the steward on the right looks more depressed than any other person I’ve ever seen.
