True Steppers - Out Of Your Mind Ft. Victoria Beckham and Dane Bowers

Remember when Victoria Beckham tried to have a solo pop career? Yeah, I think we can safely say that was a mistake. Her voice is just awful, even with all of the editing in post-production.

Anyway, those were the days…

Bus Stops Are A Bit Different In Venice…

(via my Vimeo)

The water bus was one of the highlights of my trip to Venice a few weeks back. That sounds like something a bit odd to say, but it was a cool way to see a lot of the city quite quickly.

Our hotel was on the Lido, about 10 minutes from the main Venice islands, so we had to cross the lagoon every day to go do stuff, as well as get to the airport. The bus route from right outside our hotel handily went all the way up the Grand Canal, via St Mark’s Square, which was incredibly handy.

I found it so funny to be stood there, waiting for a bus whilst bobbing up and down. I’ve never felt seasick queueing for a bus before…

The buses themselves were fantastic, pretty much what you’d expect from a bus on water. We always stood outside, soaking up the sights and sounds, which I can highly recommend.

Orca-Watching in Iceland

(via my Vimeo)

Yep, part two of my whale-watching trip in Iceland a couple of months back. After the dolphins, we were heading back to shore when a message came over the radio that a pod of orcas (aka killer whales) had been spotted in the area.

We eventually spotted some fins a little way off, and before long there was a big pod of them around us, ranging from a mature, large adult male (the really tall fin in the video) down to a few calves. They got really close to the boat, and were quite incredible to watch.

It’s quite fantastic how smooth and sleek they are, given their size and bulk. They came out of the water a lot more than the dolphins did too, which made for an amazing sight. I think the best footage of them is from about 1:30 to 2:00, and then the last 30 seconds or so. But watch the rest of it anyway!

The first minute is the same as my dolphin-watching video, just so it is self-standing as a narrative by itself as well.

Class from Wayne Bridge.

Wayne Bridge, new legend.

Oh, and I have to admit that I called this yesterday: “I actually think Bridge will refuse to shake his hand, and give him a proper daggers look.”

Fully Sick Rapper - Life in Quarantine

(via ChristiaanVanVuuren on youtube)

This guy has been diagnosed with TB, and has been kept isolated in a hospital room for 55 days (so far). Obviously, all this time by himself has turned him a little bit mental, and he’s made this quite brilliant rap video.

One of the funniest videos you’ll see this week.

Oops, I linked to the wrong video first time round. The dolphin-watching post now has the right one.

Dolphin-Watching in Iceland

(via my Vimeo)

I’ve finally got round to finishing the video of the dolphins I saw whilst in Iceland with the girlfriend at the start of December. Procrastination is a wonderful thing.

The boat trip we were on was theoretically a whale-watching excursion, but there are loads of dolphins in Reykjavik bay too, and it was a pod of these that we first came across. A little later, we saw a big pod of orcas (killer whales) too, so stay tuned for that video when I find some time.

They were really playful, swimming alongside, in front of, and underneath our boat, constantly coming up above the waves in ones and twos.

It really was quite the experience being out there and seeing them so up close. It’s astounding just how quick they are, and swiftly they can change direction. Their colours were also a bit of a surprise, as I hadn’t expected quite so much white/pale grey on their top halves, which you can quite clearly see when they get really close to the boat.

Oh, and there’s a brief cameo from the girlfriend at the start, as well as my tortured narration throughout. There was a guide on the boat, and it’s her voice you can generally hear describing the dolphins.

Oh Jay…

Those on the West of the Atlantic might need to fire up the urban dictionary

Man, I love this show. It reminds me of just how often my friends and I used to swear when we were at school, and still do now. Everyone knew someone like Jay a some point…

Writing about Brass Eye a few minutes ago reminded me of this clip, which I just showed to the girlfriend in order to educate her about the brilliance of Brass Eye. It’s from the Drugs episode, and it shows how celebrities, and even a freakin’ Member of Parliament can be duped into doing material for an anti-drug campaigns.

Cake, you see, is a “made-up drug”. This didn’t stop the great and good from preaching to us about its dangers and effects, and the MP even went so far as to bring it up in Parliament! Epic win.

Oh, and this is nothing when compared to the similar tactic used in the Paedophile episode, which got one celebrity to state to camera that the average paedophile has more DNA in common “with a crab, than with you or I”. Utter, utter genius.

I’d say that this is my favourite ever Arsenal goal. Not because of the quality of it, nor the technical skill involved in it, but because of its meaning.

This was the last goal we scored in the 1997-1998 season, in which we won the Premier League and FA Cup, and I remember it vividly. I was watching it on TV, and we only needed a draw to win the title. We absolutely spanked Everton, 4-0, and this was the last goal.

For me, it signified a changing of the guard. The goalscorer, Tony Adams, was pretty much Mr Arsenal. He was the captain, and he signified everything about the club. His partner in crime in the middle of defence, Steve Bould, was the man who played him through on goal. They were both veterans by this stage, having given decades of service to the club, and this was the beginning of the end for them both.

A new manager had taken over a year or two earlier, and he was beginning to mould the team into his own vision. Adams and Bould wouldn’t last much longer, but Arsenal would carry on, and in fact improve.

I remember crying my eyes out after this goal went in, as it was the first time since I’d started supporting Arsenal that we’d won the league, that we’d proven that we were the best in the land. And for our captain, our hero to score the final goal, the icing on the cake? Well, that was just too much to ask for.

This goal was scored on 3rd May 1998, nearly 12 years ago, and I remember it like it was yesterday. Ask me something that happened last week, and I’d have no idea. This? I’ll remember it as long as I live.
